Waste & Recycling
Domestic Waste Collection
Domestic Waste is collected within defined scavenging areas on a weekly basis throughout the Shire. The collection days are as as follows:
- Ardlethan - Wednesday
- Beckom - Wednesday
- Coolamon - Tuesday
- Ganmain - Wednesday
- Marrar - Tuesday
- Matong - Wednesday
All garbage receptacles are required to be placed on the street kerb the night before the nominated collection day.
Domestic Recycling Collection
Council Domestic Recycling Collection commenced in July 2007. The 240lt GREEN bin is for 'co-mingled' recycling which includes glass, paper, cans (steel or aluminium), plastic, non-waxed cardboard. Do not tie recycling in plastic bags.

Coolamon Shire Landfills
From the 1 July 2009, the opening hours at Council's landfills will be extended as follows:

BOTH THE BECKOM & MATONG TIPS WILL BE CLOSED FROM 1 JULY 2009 WITH ACCESS TO WASTE DISPOSAL FOR THESE COMMUNITIES BEING AT ARDLETHAN AND GANMAIN RESPECTIVELY
The waste disposal facilities shall remain open every week of the year, excluding Christmas Day, New Years Day and Good Friday when the waste disposal facilities shall remain closed. The days and times upon which the waste disposal facilities are to be open to the public may be varied by negotiation between Council and the Contractor.
Landfill Access Fees & Charges
Charges will apply for the disposal of waste by non-residents of the Shire from 1 July 2009 as follows:

In order to ensure that only ratepayers or residents are using the Landfill facilities free of charge for disposal of domestic waste, clean fill, Elourea accepted recycling, green waste and black metal, users will be required to provide identification proving residency or ratepayer status as follows:

Drivers Licence - clearly showing residency in the Coolamon Shire and/or

Rate Notice - a copy of a current or most recent rates notice for a property within the Shire.
Failure to provide this evidence will mean that the waste will incur a fee.
Certain waste will be charged regardless of where it originates from as these items require Council to manage their disposal.

In order to improve access to recycling facilities, Council will be providing co-mingled bins at the landfill sites. The provision of the recyclig bins will require users to separate their waste and will help to extend the life of the existing pits.
Waste Oil Collection
Coolamon and Ardlethan landfill sites can now accept used motor oil on the above days and times . The waste oil collection facility was installed with the help of an Australian Government grant under the Product Stewardship for Oil Programme and REROC.
Please note: Ganmain & Marrar landfill facilities at this stage do not accept waste oil.
DrumMuster
Collection of farm chemical drums operates all year round from the Coolamon and Ardlethan Landfill sites only. The landfill supervisor will inspect each drum before accepting them.
Coolamon Lions Club Recycling
The Coolamon Lions Club operate their recycling service for cardboard, paper, glass and aluminium cans only. Residents of Coolamon Shire are encouraged to use this service.
Council Cleanup
Once every two years Council conducts a bulky items cleanup. The biennial collection is advertised in the local paper and newsletters.
Illegal Dumping
Dumping of any items outside designated waste disposal areas is illegal. Fines of up to $1,500 (individuals) or $5,000 (corporations) may be imposed on persons found guilty of this offence.
