Council's Department of Planning & Environmental Services performs the following functions relating to Strategic & Environmental Planning:
Efficient and high quality strategic development function that will enhance the long term development of the Shire and comply with the needs of the local and regional communities.
Assessment of applications for the rezoning of land and for amendments to Coolamon Local Environmental Plan 1995.
Develop policies, in consultation with relevant government agencies, industry bodies and the community that reflect current practice and recognise environmental concerns and economic factors.
Ensure that the European and Aboriginal heritage of the Shire is preserved by the identification of significant sites.
