Impressive crowds attended Youth Fest on Friday April 12 – an event to help the young people of the Coolamon Shire celebrate Youth Week. Youth Week was held from 10 April to 17 April and is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events.
Community Development Officer, Jessica Inch said “Events such as these are a great opportunity for youth to get together in a supportive environment,”
A large crowd of over 150 turned up at the Up-to-Date store open air auditorium to see impressive performances by local musicians Georgia Armstrong, Belee Kadmon-Jones and Wagga musicians Denny Henderson-Wilson and Sam Lloyd. The event also included heaps of free activities for young people to enjoy including bungee run, tarot card tent, design your own t-shirt and giant outdoor games made by the Coolamon Men’s Shed. A free bus service was offered to the young people of Ardlethan, a great opportunity for young people from across the shire to mingle and have a good time.
Youth Fest is also an opportunity for local schools to participate in a behind the scenes experience in event management. Coolamon Central School’s hospitality class operated as a street food vendor for the evening, and a dedicated group of 10 young people volunteered to assist in event set up.
The
highlight of the night was the CDAT Glow Party, which saw the interior of the
Up-to-Date store play host to an awesome glow in the dark underage nightclub.
CDAT is a community group funded by the Australian Drug Foundation to address local drug and alcohol
misuse or issues impacting the community.
Youth Fest 2019 was a tremendous success and was a great opportunity
for young people within the shire to take advantage of new opportunities while
meeting new people and having fun.
