Working with Council

Councils are traditionally known for employing engineers, building surveyors and maintenance staff who look after roads and parks, however, Coolamon Shire Council offers a variety of other career opportunities in challenging and rewarding environments.

There are career opportunities in a number of fields including finance, environmental and statutory planning, aged care, childcare, human resources, work, health and safety, administration and customer service, building control, engineering, roads and parks maintenance and property management.

In addition to this, various tenders and quotations are offered by Council for the provision of goods and services which opens up a different avenue for people to work with Council.

Volunteering with Council

Coolamon Shire Council could not function without its many volunteers.

Successful volunteers provide many benefits: the service and care given to the community, the friendship and self confidence it brings out in people, the creativity of so many diverse volunteer activities and above all the enjoyment of achieving something worthwhile.

Volunteer opportunities

We are always looking for special people to help with:

  • Meals on Wheels

  • Community Transport

  • Social Support

  • Advance Committees - individual committees within the townships/villages of Marrar, Ganmain, Ardlethan and Beckom that control and manage community assets on Council's behalf and represent their communities through promotional and fundraising activities and work with Council and other agencies to achieve outcomes contained in the Coolamon Shire Community Strategic Plan

  • Allawah Lodge

Coolamon Shire Council congratulates all those volunteers, of all ages and walks of life, who contribute their precious time and energy to making the quality of life for the community so special. Some volunteers work full time, some part time, others are retired or students. Many volunteers have been involved for years, and others for short periods of time or particular events.
